Like most things in life, our Coffee Cups loosen up with a little bit of love and warmth. So, if the lid feels a bit stiff at first, it’ll soon relax once you’ve treated it to a nice cup of coffee. If the stiffness persists, please try opening and closing your lid 5 to 10 times to loosen.

Tried this, even disassembled my cup to clean with warm water again. Seems to be very stiff and no give at all.
my lid refuses to budge
Managed to completely misunderstand the instructions and my lid is now wedges on the inside. Not great instructions to be honest. I will now have to order a new lid and head. :-(
No movement at all in the lid as with the other comments, I’ll end up breaking it before it budges
I have the same issue - the top of the lid does not budge at all - have tried to soak in hot water.
Despite all my efforts, I was unable to open the top of the lid. However, my son was eventually able to open it and after him opening and closing it many times, I am now able to do so myself. The action still requires one's hand to be in a specific position - it is definitely a knack that has to be acquired.
Given how many customers suffer from this issue and presumably some have given up, I hope that Chilly will take note and make an adjustment to the manufacturing process.
It is completely impossible to open the lid to be able to drink. It has washed and looked after and I have tried dozens of times to open it. It has been a complete waste of time and money. I find myself wondering how many of the positive reviews I have read are genuine, as they bear no resemblance to my experience.
I've just received it today. Not only is the lid difficult to open, detaching the lid is also a mission itself. The instruction says use round knife and I used a cake server which wasn't sharp but it managed to damage both collar and the lid. I wish I had read these reviews before purchasing
Unfortunately awful product.
It is true the lid is very stiff (almost impossible to open at start) however after a little patience it will twist.
After that, then spend a minute opening and closing to loosen.
Mine now works perfectly although not a good start.
I find it opens the cup if you are not careful when closing the lid because it’s is very tight
When you first get you cup take the lid off and underneath you’ll see a lock, take a coin and turn it to unlock… that’s how I did it… but it doesn’t show any instructions anywhere which is quite bad.
Impossible to move the top, no proper instructions. This is a rubbish product.
I found the lid impossible to open. I read these instructions and put coffee in it. It was a little easier. However, it then seized up again and is now very difficult to open again. It is impossible to open one-handed, which means it can’t be used while driving. Also, since I followed these instructions, it has now had coffee in it and cannot be returned. Nice work.
Shame because I bought three of the bottles and like them a great deal. This seems to just be poorly designed. I’d love to hear from Chillys to see if they can find a way to remedy the problem.
